HISU method - Phase2 - Strategy Phase

Top

Simply put, the team 's only goal in this phase is to find and establish their strategy.

Progression

It is now tempting to quickly run to the next phase which is design and documentation, but everyone in the team must have Strategien ready for first. Therefore, one usually prepares a strategy ( strategic plan ). In this phase, team out his "compass direction" by finding their strategy. group need for information woods searching for "low- hanging - fruits ", ie both the obvious but also by what is revealed after exertion.

There are no ready-made simple method to develop a comprehensive strategy. it involves an iterative process of creation. Try different ideas and suggestions on strategies , is not satisfied, repeat. This phase can take a lot of energy to complete.

  • we need such additional information the client
  • we need to know more about the target audience
  • the working group?
  • what is the problem?
  • how competitors solve the same task ?
  • how can we solve this problem in the future?
  • what is creative and innovative ?
  • what is not low- hanging - fruits ?

Methods to proceed, you need start by laying out all the " cards " on the table. Only then do you get an overview and can make good strategic decisions. here are the risk that you feel different within the group have different ideas and approaches.

Work happily alongside several proposals to finally agree on the best. Come Remember the key words ; responsiveness, respect, learn from each other. Donald H. McGannon says that "Leadership is action, not position."

Common methods are Brainstorm

  1. problem
  2. brainstorm/documentation
  3. analysis
  4. priority
  5. continued work

The strategy phase will rough ideas forward, these can be subject to change. If possible the client can give the go-ahead from the Strategy so working here at coarse level and not get caught up in details. Be prepared to sacrifice solutions ("kill your darlings").

In connection with the sketches or web maps broadly need to do the testing. These validations of strategy provides early confirmation that

  • thinking right
  • structure broadly seems to hold
  • any user or reading value is
  • strategy to tie up the whole thing is understandable

Validations must at that stage be very simple, such as by use of paper models, think-aloud method, observations, etc.

Based on the principal amount of information and data from business intelligence and target group analysis dialed problem area into. By means of tests and validations target groups and / or personas will also have a structure of the prototype to come to the surface based on areas, target groups, associations, or a mixture thereof.

Again, it is important to be able to explain and present their proposed solution. The table below provides some tools described shortly.

Tools/ Methods description
Metaphors The site should be " wise as an owl." Illustration of owl, wise statements from the owl, and so on.
Persona The concept Persona is very helpful for all disciplines involved in a ongoing design process. If everyone involved has a different picture of the man who designs, can be an elaborate fictional person distilled from the target group to represent the target audience. This fictional person is not real but by giving persona as much value from reality and maybe even a picture so everyone in the design team to be helped. It is impossible to make direct validations against a persona, but if the persona signals eg woman, 30 years old, single, no children, it is possible to "test" what types of charter attracted and repelled by the persona. Personans properties obtained from studies of the target group
Scenarios Allowing the supposed representatives of the target group of prospective scenarios arise understanding of how they act in certain situations.
Moodboard A printout of various kontextanpasade colorful pictures describing the "landscape" that persona is in. When these images can be anticipated, it helps to to see " media " pattern which to some extent can be used on the site.
Case studies and stories It is often useful and interesting to compare the current assignment with others mission and then selected solutions.
Concept art Simple images that graphically describe relationships between visitors' various communication needs or how a function is supposed to work. There are really no rules how a concept image to be designed. Concept art are often very effectively to highlight an idea or make his message crystal clear
Explanatory drawings Visualize the solution by simple explanatory drawings

Since the entire project is completed with a documentation, a final document, it can be spare a thought for final report that will weave together all the information and previous assignments to an independent final report.

Develop strategy report with ideas, concepts, descriptions, recommendation and so on. in a readable format.

Describe the background, the broad context ie. what they think the target groups are and objectives of the solution. It is also valuable in various ways to describe what you have built for lessons and experiences from research phase.

Please be so visual as possible when you present your suggestions and recommendations. Use design sketches and site -maps and even gladly tables and graphs in a simple way to describe how you have arrived at a particular decision, from research to finished proposal.
